Knowing that Hubert De Givenchy is the renowned clothing designer for her idol, Audrey Hepburn, she decided to pay a visit to the museum in Calais, France in 2017 to have a deeper understanding on how fashion changes from time to time in terms of clothing designing, materials used, and also the clothing trends.
The Museum of Lace and Fashion in Calais exhibits 70 Hubert de Givenchy designs, sourced from private wardrobe collections and the fashion house’s archives.
Lately, the French department of culture and communication has organized exhibition to document Givenchy’s fabulous career from start to finish.
Highlights during his time featured life-changing encounters which shaped his internationally-renowned fashion repertoire.
A retrospective on Hubert de Givenchy, in Calais
Givenchy himself has undertaken the role as artistic director and created a themed visit, dates back to 1952. At that time, he launched Les Separates, individual pieces which could be mixed and matched, including the white shirting Bettina blouse with ruffled sleeves and black Broderie Anglaise. A genius with an eye for couture was born!
